Important emergency tips:

Take precautions to avoid further damage to your property. If the damages require you to leave your home, secure your property, remove valuable items, and lock windows and doors.

Keep all receipts and take photographs of the damages—before and after emergency repairs—to submit with your claim.

Do not make extensive repairs before the claim adjuster arrives or discard damaged furniture or other contents, as the adjuster will want to see them.

Make a list of everything you would like to show the adjuster when he or she arrives.

DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING until you have spoken to your insurance adjuster. Be on the lookout for AOB's or Assignment of Benefits abuse, which occurs when unscrupulous vendors file inflated claims with insurance companies and then threaten to sue if the claim is not paid, is driving up the cost of property insurance premiums in Florida.
