MANDATORY EVACATION ORDER

EVACUATION PRESS RELEASE: St. Johns County Issues Mandatory Evacuation Order in Response to Hurricane Matthew

For Immediate Release

St. Johns County, FL – In response to the projected track of Hurricane Matthew, St. Johns County has issued a mandatory evacuation order for 6 a.m. on Thursday, October 6 for residents living in Evacuation Zone A and portions of Evacuation Zone B.

Evacuation Zone A and portions of B – Including residents east of the intracoastal waterway, including Ponte Vedra Beach, South Ponte Vedra Beach, Vilano Beach, St. Augustine Beach, Butler Beach, Crescent Beach, and Summer Haven. In addition, residents generally located along the St. Johns River and west of State Road 13, including the Town of Hastings.

Portions of Evacuation Zone B – Including residents who live south of the Northeast Florida Regional Airport east of US 1 to the County line.

Residents living in boats, RVs, and mobile homes throughout St. Johns County are included in the evacuation order. Residents who are able to evacuate and are not utilizing a St. Johns County shelter should begin evacuating as soon as possible prior to the evacuation scheduled for 6 a.m. on Thursday, October 6 in order to avoid traffic congestion.

SHELTERS

St. Johns County Emergency Shelter Openings and Essential Supplies

St. Johns County opened shelters this morning and continues to monitor shelter capacity. The County is prepared to open additional shelters as needed. The following shelters are currently open to the public:

• Pacetti Bay Middle School, 245 Meadowlark Ln. (Special needs)
• Timberlin Creek Elementary School, 555 Pine Tree Ln. (Pet-friendly)
• Pedro Menendez High School, 600 SR 206 West (General population)
• Bartram Trail High School, 7399 Longleaf Pine Pkwy. (General population)

While shelters provide safety throughout the storm, residents must bring supplies in order to maintain personal comfort and sustenance. St. Johns County recommends that all evacuees bring their own bedding, including sleeping bags or air mattresses, pillows, sheets, and blankets. A three-day supply of water, non-perishable food, medication, diapers, and other personal items are also suggested. • Manual can opener
• Three-day supply of medications
• If you are a diabetic on insulin, bring a small cooler for insulin
• Personal grooming and hygiene items, feminine supplies
• Extra clothing
• Eyeglasses
• Books, magazines, cards, games, etc.
• Lawn chair/chaise lounge
• Pillows, blankets, sheets
• Flashlight and extra batteries
• Personal identification/important papers
• Wheelchair/walker/cane, if needed

FIVE sandbag locations in St. Johns County:

• Ron Parker Park – 607 Old Beach Road.
• Sims Pit – 536 S. Holmes Boulevard.
• Town of Hastings Town Hall – 6195 S. Main Street, behind the building. 
• Mills Field – 1805 Racetrack Road, in the overflow parking area.
• Palm Valley – Under the Palm Valley Bridge on the east side of the Intracoastal Waterway.
